Friday night was “open-stage” and a great opportunity to meet the people of Wayne, and the folks who came for WayneFest. We usually brought a band back from the year before to kick off the festival in style. Once the audience was warm, the music became your responsibility! Then, after you folks had strutted your stuff, the band got back up to close off Night One.
The show did start early but we had a secret plan to prevent the possible travesty of you sleeping through a single minute (bagpipes anyone?)! There were breakfast options and a whole lotta music, and other stuff, to get ya goin’.
Throughout the day there were raffles, auctions, a music store, a beer tent, and vendors that kept you multi-tasking to the music!
The famous (or was it infamous?) Pitchfork Steak Dinner was included in your Waynefest ticket; and it was all you can eat, under the prairie sky, and helped you refuel as we continued pretty much non-stop ‘til well past midnight… but before the trains… if you were there you know what that means.
Breakfast was on us, along with a morning full o' music on the main stage. And just this once, we said it was OK to eat while the bands played (as long as you danced it off as soon as you were done chowing!). Hallelujah!
It all wrapped up by mid-afternoon Sunday, followed by tearful goodbyes, “I love you man”’s, "I’ll email you every day – I promise", and “hey, are you wearing my shoes?”
